Spirited Monday Evening Salon

Play

When did you last do something for no reason at all? Who taught you to stop playing, and why do we hand children the right to be silly and take it away from ourselves?

Monday, July 26, 2027 at 7pm

When did you last do something for absolutely no reason? Not for health, not for progress, not to post about it afterwards. What was it, and why don't you do it more?

Who taught you to stop playing, and when did it happen? Was it a person, a job, a grief, or just the slow business of being an adult? Why do we hand children the right to be silly and quietly take it away from ourselves?

What's the difference between play and leisure, and why does one leave us lit up and the other leave us flat? Can work be play? Can marriage? Can grief, even, have play in it somewhere?

What did you play as a child that you are still playing now in disguise? What would your eight-year-old self make of your Saturdays? What would it take to let them in on one?

Come at midsummer with your sense of humour and no agenda. This is the evening the series exhales before it starts again in the fall. Expect to laugh, and possibly to be handed something to make.
