Spirited Monday Evening Salon

Ritual

What do you do every day without thinking, and what would change if you did it on purpose? Which rituals did you inherit, which did you invent, and which did you lose along the way?

What do you do every day without thinking? The coffee, the walk, the chair you always take. What would change if you did the same thing on purpose, with your whole attention? Is that the difference between a routine and a ritual, or is it something else?

Which rituals did you inherit, and from whom? Which did you make up for yourself, maybe without noticing? And which have you lost: the ones that went when someone died, when a child left, when you moved, when a marriage ended, and you only realised afterwards that the thing you missed was Tuesday nights?

Why does a candle lit at the table change the meal? Why does a room feel different when the same music plays at the same hour? Do rituals hold us, or hold us back, and how do you tell a ritual from a rut?

Do we need the sacred for a ritual to work, or just repetition and care? What have you watched other cultures do with ceremony that made you a little envious, and what stops you from borrowing it?

Come with one ritual you would not give up, and one you have been meaning to begin. April is a good month to begin things.
